What is your deadline for applying?

BNSF employs an open application system. You may apply at any time. However, we strongly urge you to allow enough time for the process to work at its best.

How often does BNSF make its granting decisions?

The Foundation's Review Team meets monthly to consider requests.

How long will it be before I know the status of my application?

Our process can take anywhere from 3 months to one year, depending upon whether we need more information, and the ongoing daily work of the railroad. We ask that you refrain from contacting the Foundation during the processing period unless you have additional information you feel is pertinent such as updated financials or budgets.

How often may I apply?

You may apply once per calendar year, whether you have received a grant or been declined. The only exception to this is if you have been invited by the Foundation to reapply.

How much should I apply for? Is there a maximum amount that BNSF will award?

BNSF has no limit on the amount for which you may apply. However, generally, our grants fall within the $1,000.00 to $10,000.00 range. If you would like the Foundation to consider making a major gift, please contact us at the address provided under the Contact Us tab.

How do I contact the Foundation?

The appropriate contact information is listed under the Contact Us tab.

How may I learn the status of my application?

You will be notified as to the outcome of your application as soon as a decision is made. We ask that you refrain from contacting the Foundation during the processing period unless you have additional information you feel is pertinent such as updated financials or budgets.
